Law shaped around the people it serves
Lalang Counsel was established to provide Singapore families with clear, careful legal counsel on estate planning — without the formality that so often discourages these conversations from happening.
Return to HomeEstablished to make estate planning accessible
Lalang Counsel was founded with a straightforward purpose: to offer families in Singapore thoughtful legal guidance on matters of estate planning, without the opacity that often surrounds legal processes.
The name draws from the lalang grass that persists quietly through changing seasons — a reflection of how well-prepared legal documents work: quietly, in the background, ensuring continuity for those who come after us.
Our practice focuses exclusively on wills, trusts, and lasting powers of attorney. That focus allows us to develop genuine depth in our area of practice, and to give each client the attention their matter deserves.
We work with individuals at all life stages — from young professionals putting their first will in place, to families navigating more complex wealth structures, to older clients who want to ensure their affairs are properly arranged. Every situation is approached with patience and care.
Our Mission
To make the legal arrangements that protect families accessible, comprehensible, and properly executed — so that individuals can plan their affairs with confidence, and their families can navigate the future without unnecessary legal uncertainty.
Documents drafted correctly the first time, with all statutory requirements met.
Every step of the process explained in plain language, not legal jargon.
Estate matters are personal. We treat them accordingly.
Counsel you can speak to directly
Our team is small by design. Each client works directly with a practitioner, not through layers of delegation.
Siew-Ling Wong
Called to the Singapore Bar, Siew-Ling has practised exclusively in estate and succession law for over twelve years, with particular experience in trust structures for multi-generational families.
Rajan Balasubramaniam
Rajan joined Lalang Counsel from a broader private client practice. He focuses on will preparation and LPA registration, and has a particular interest in advising clients on planning for mental incapacity.
Cheryl Lim
Cheryl coordinates the administrative aspects of each matter, ensuring that clients receive timely updates and that all procedural requirements — including OPG submissions — are managed efficiently.
Professional standards we hold ourselves to
Law Society Compliance
All practitioners are members in good standing with the Law Society of Singapore and operate in accordance with the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct) Rules.
Client Confidentiality
All client information is subject to legal professional privilege. Client files are stored securely and are accessible only to those directly involved in the matter.
Document Integrity
Every document produced by our practice is reviewed at the drafting stage and again before execution, to ensure it reflects the client's instructions and meets all statutory requirements.
Informed Consent
We take care to ensure that clients understand the nature and effect of the documents they are signing. This is particularly important where LPAs and testamentary capacity are involved.
Statutory Compliance
We keep current with Singapore legislation — including the Wills Act, Intestate Succession Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Trustees Act — to ensure all documentation is legally sound.
Clear Fee Transparency
Fees are confirmed in writing before any work begins. Our practice does not charge for initial enquiries, and there are no charges beyond those agreed at the outset of a matter.
Estate planning counsel in Singapore
Singapore's legal framework for wills, trusts, and lasting powers of attorney is well-developed and relatively straightforward to navigate — when you have practised in it long enough. Lalang Counsel works within this framework daily, helping clients across the city-state put the right documents in place before those documents are needed.
Estate planning is frequently deferred. People assume it is complicated, or expensive, or something to be addressed later in life. In practice, the documents are often simpler than expected, the cost reasonable, and the benefit of having them in place significant. A will prepared today saves a family considerable uncertainty tomorrow. An LPA registered now protects a person's autonomy during a period when they may not be able to advocate for themselves.
Our work spans the spectrum of estate planning needs: single individuals arranging their affairs for the first time, married couples coordinating their wills and CPF nominations, parents with young children who need to appoint guardians, and families with more complex asset structures who require trust arrangements. We approach each matter with the care it deserves.
